What is G.A.I.N.?
Welcome to my blog! My name is Dr. Victor Prisk. I am a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, IFBB professional bodybuilder and judge, NCAA All-American gymnast, and professional swing dancer.
I created The G.A.I.N. Plan to bring my principals of life-long goal attainment and well-being directly to you. My goal is to help you be better than “yesterday’s self”. Every new day is a chance to grow, learn, and change dreams into goals. Every day is a chance to discover ways to bring out your competitive spirit and inner “performer”.
G.A.I.N. represents the pillars of your life that make the foundation for health, longevity, and athletic achievement.
G= Graded Exercise:
There really is no way around it; we must exercise to be healthy. As we fight father time we have to constantly evolve in the way we exercise. Without pushing for physiologic adaptations we stagnate or regress. This is true if you just want to be healthy or you want to be a champion in your sport. Your training whether it is in the gym or on the track should be steadily progressive like being on a small upward grade or slope. You can avoid plateaus and setbacks through the principles I propose to control the grade of rise and rate of ascent.
You should also “grade” yourself as you progress with objective measures of your performance, attitude, health, and nutrition. Without objective measures it is impossible to know if you are moving toward or away from your goals. These measures can be biometrics, strength, endurance, perceived effort, or laboratory values.
Our minds control everything around us. When you have a positive mental attitude, even tragedy can become a blessing. Having a PMA improves how we respond to the world and how the world responds to us. PMA gives us goal directed motivation and tolerance of the word work. Our perceived exertion improves. Our immune systems are stronger. Our bodies heal faster. Assessment (“grading”)and daily management of our attitude can give us clues into our health and improve our sense of well-being.
I= Integrated Medicine
Everything we do is affected by our health. We need to keep our minds and bodies healthy. All of the principles that I present through G.A.I.N. are rooted my medical training and evidenced based medicine. I make recommendations to become a better you in such a way that it improves your health, longevity, and resistance to injury. Recognizing the warning signs of injury and disease gives us traction to keep moving up the slope.
Our diets affect our bodies and minds in ways that we are learning more about every day. I am constantly researching nutrients and performance. I write columns in 3 different magazines pertaining to nutritional supplementation. I will present some of that knowledge here. We truly are what we eat. Well balanced nutrition doesn’t always cut it in the world of athletic accomplishment. Nutritional supplementation is the key to success in many aspects
